"Mantua and Sabbioneta"
Mantua and Sabbioneta offer exceptionel testimonies to the urban, architectural and artistic creations of the Renaissance, marked by the visions and actions of the ruling Gonzaga family.
In 1530 Frederick II received thr title of Duke of Mantua. Thanks to outstanding artists such as leon battista Alberti, Andrea Mnantegna and Giulio Romano, the city became one of the Renaissance capitals.
Sabbioneta is linked to the strange personality of Vespasiano, who was a member of cadet branch of the House of Gonzaga. He loved luxury and so decided to trasform its feud into an ideal city.
